Hello!

My name is Kailyn McQuisten! I grew up in Oregon; though I am new to this side of the state and it’s quite different! I have a few hobbies, such as being outdoors and exploring new areas with friends, photography, drawing, and occasionally enjoying video games. I love the expressive ability in various visual arts and creating is one of my favorite things. In addition, I also enjoy gardening and spending time with my cat, who is named Amelia! I'm including a picture of her below!

I am not a business major, but I am enrolled in LBCC's Visual Communications pathway. I hope to someday be able to work in graphic design or visual arts fields, though I am still figuring out exactly what it is I want to do. Every new class I take in this field opens up cool new possibilities for me, and I thoroughly enjoy learning every new thing I can in each of them! 

I enrolled in this course mainly because it is a requirement for my degree; however, that doesn’t mean it’s the only reason! Marketing and being able to present and sell a product or service is incredibly valuable in many lines of design work. Depending on where I go and what I do, I have to have a good grasp of marketing concepts in order to create imagery that can help push an idea forward. I also think a lot of the concepts surrounding marketing are very interesting, and I am eager to learn more about it! 

While it still relates to some of my studies, one of the things I am most passionate about outside of school is photography and art! I love to capture ideas and express things in a visual way, and whenever I can capture something cool or appealing I am always proud. I also just really enjoy making things that look nice and taking interesting photos of wildlife and nature. Below is one of my favorite examples of recent photography I've been doing.

When COVID-19 began to truly set in in the US, most of us had a comparatively easy task. The biggest complaint I often heard was the loss of entertainment; eating out and seeing friends was, for the time, not an option. Depop: User to User

Depop is a Direct to Consumer, London-based mobile marketplace app, described as being a "peer-to-peer social shopping app." It's a place where you can be a buyer or seller; in a way that's a little similar to Ebay or Facebook Marketplace. It's typically used by a younger generation for street fashion or vintage wear as an alternative to fast fashion or new clothes; since it's usually recycled or previous used articles of clothing. It's value proposition is about creating a space for sellers, typically younger people looking to turn this into a "side hustle" a place to sell clothes and other fashion items.  There are mostly good things being said about Depop, as it's community hails it as a great place for them to have a base for their business.
